In a very weak moment spurred on by a caffeine high induced by ice tea from Hooters, I walked over to Barnes and Noble to spend money I shouldn't on two cool books.
Podcast Hacks by Jack Herrington so far is pretty cool! O'Reilly Media is one of my favorite publishers just for putting out Make Magazine.
I also bought Mark and Michael Polish's Declaration of Independent Filmmaking
and in it I read the story of how Stanley Kubrick
's daughter Vivian was helping them with music. I used to dream that somehow Vivian would fall in love with me and we would have a great creative life of music, film and art.
Later in their story Vivian's older sister called the brothers looking for Vivian. Her father had died.
They drove to her apartment not knowing the exact address and as they walked up to her door through an open window they heard her answer the phone call from her sister giving her the horrible news.
They didn't bother knocking on the door.
Some time later Vivian gave them both Kubrick's personal copy of Cinematographer's Handbook.
I was so moved by that story. I also then realized I had read the book all in one sitting. My eyes were sore and swollen.
With all the knowledge contained in these two books I should be able to create a wonderful world for myself. But I should probably sleep first. Then nap. Then move out of my apartment. Then leave to parts yet unknown to me.
